Description

Aragonite is calcium carbonate, it is relatively unstable and can alter to calcite. Aragonite are orthorhombic. Found in the oxidized zone of ore deposits and elsewhere, formed at low temperatures near the surface of the Earth. Also found in caves as stalactites, around hot springs, and in mineral veins. When it occurs in coral- like aggregates in iron-ore deposits in association with siderite, its iron carbonate counterpart, it is called Flos-Ferri, meaning ‘ flowers of iron’. Named after Aragon in Spain, the Alfonso's lapidary probably includes a stone, but it’s impossible to identify.
